Armistice Day & Remembrance Sunday 2016
On Friday 11th November, the Armistice Day Service commencing at 10.50 a.m. at the War Memorial on Dock End will once again welcome representatives of the 4 Close Support (1Close Support Battalion) REME who will march from the Endeavour Wharf Car Park to the War Memorial. Following the service at the Memorial will be led by Rev. Capt. Malcom Jackson of the parish of Whitby and Ruswarp. Following the observation of the 2 minutes’ silence wreaths will be laid in the presence of Standard Bearers from the British Legion and other Whitby Ex-Servicemen’s Associations. At the close of the service the visiting Troops will march along New Quay Road, St Anne’s Staith and Pier Road to Heroes Bridge for a short ceremony accompanied by the Piper in honour of the two Whitby servicemen lost in recent conflicts.
On Remembrance Sunday 13th November, a short secular service will be held at 11.00 a.m. at the War Memorial, followed at 2.30 p.m. by the Town Remembrance Service in St Mary’s Church which welcomes hundreds of community representatives, ex-servicemen and serving military to participate in a moving and uplifting tribute to those who gave their lives in the service of their country.
