Armed Forces Day 30.6.18
Preparations are almost complete for Whitby's Armed Forces Day,
Saturday 30th June, 10am – 4pm, on Dock End
Please Join us and show your support
Whitby will celebrate Armed Forces Day this Saturday 30th June with a fantastic, fun family day at Dock End, 10am – 4pm.
Come along and say hello to the many veterans and military support organisations who will be there to chat about their experiences and find out about life in the Armed Forces.
Groups in attendance will include SSAFA – The Armed Forces Charity (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association), the charity we are raising funds for this year.
We will also enjoy the company of Whitby Veterans Support, the Royal British Legion, Royal Air Forces Association, Help for Heroes, Parachute Regiment, the RAF Association and the RAF Benevolent Fund Raising Stall, and the Air Training Corps, our local branch of the British volunteer-military youth organisation.
Other attractions on the day include street food, a range of stalls, the ever popular Climbing Wall, Hook a Duck and a variety of interesting stalls and activities. A new stall for this year is the Mayoral Treasure Hunt, with a range of wonderful prizes donated by celebrities. You could win a script from Downton Abbey signed by Joanna Froggatt, a limited edition picture disc signed by Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, a House of Commons teddy bear, an outfit worn by Kylie Platt, (a character in Coronation Street who was played by actress Paula Lane) and many more.
There will be music provided by local youth musicians in the Whitby Big Band. Students from the Hannah Verity Dance Studio will entertain us with a dance routine and the local Air Cadets will demonstrate their military drill.
One of the highlights of the day will be the flypast of the Dakota ZA947, provided by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The Flypast will take place at 2.00pm on Saturday 30th and our local young musicians will serenade the plane as it flies over Whitby.
Join us this Saturday to celebration our local military connections and help us to show our support for all our armed forces personnel, past and present.
