Co-option Opportunities
Following confirmation of the outcome of the local election, which will will result in a new council taking its seat from 9 May, Whitby Town Council has four vacancies, which it may fill by co-option.
These are in the following wards (one in each):
Abbey
Stakesby
Town South
West Cliff
The role of town councillor offers the chance to make a huge difference to the quality of life for people in Whitby. Being an effective councillor requires both commitment and hard work. Councillors have to balance the needs and interests of residents, of partner organisations, businesses, visitors and the council.
The councillors' role centres around community leadership and engagement; responsibilities include:
- representing the ward for which they are elected
- decision-making - developing and reviewing council policy
- and statutory duties

Applications are invited by 7 June, in advance of meeting of Full Council on 21 June (to be confirmed).
