North Yorkshire Council has announced the schedule of repair work to the Swing Bridge, which will now start in November.

To minimise the overall impact of the project, it has been split into two phases, avoiding the busy events and the end-of-summer period.

Phase 1 – NOW 20 November to 01 December 2023: Complete closure for both vehicles and pedestrians, with a shuttle bus service provided – proposed every 30 minutes, between 06:00am and 01:00am. 24/7 working will be utilised where possible to reopen as soon as possible.

• During this phase, the deck will be fully stripped down to the steelwork, prepared, waterproofed, and resurfaced. We will also widen the current footways to 1.8m from its current 1.65m.

Phase 2 – Spring 2024 (Date TBC).

• The remaining painting work on the bridge will be carried out during this period with pedestrian access maintained.
