From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they're 20 weeks old.

To reflect the new changes, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has updated the guidance page on cat and dog microchipping.

The updated guidance includes information on who can microchip dogs or cats, what happens when they are microchipped and how owners can update microchipping details.
