Whitby Street Angels looking for new recruits.
Whitby Street Angels is a voluntary group set up to help make Whitby town centre a safer and better place. At the moment they can only patrol on two Saturdays a month because of a lack of volunteers. Their aim is to help and listen to people, especially those in difficult or vulnerable situations.
Whitby Street Angels would welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, it's a great opportunity for young people looking to build on their CV but is equally good for those wanting to share life experiences with a team of likeminded volunteers.
A typical night on patrol would see three volunteers walking a particular route around Whitby town, guided by the CCTV controller and Whitby door staff and providing support for homeless or lost travellers, removing glass and bottles from the street and generally interacting with revellers as they make their way around the area.
They have become best known for handing out flip flops to those with sore feet and for giving lollipops to younger people. Anyone interested in volunteering can get in touch with Elizabeth via the Whitby Street Angel website (https://www.street-angels.org.uk/contact-us) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/WhitbyStreetAngels).
