From next year there will be a new single council in North Yorkshire. The new North Yorkshire Council will replace the seven district and borough councils as well as the county council. Based on current burial rates and number of available burials plots, it is estimated that the three cemeteries sites across the Borough Larpool cemetery in Whitby, Woodlands cemetery in Scarborough and Lawns cemetery in Filey will reach full capacity in the next four to six years.

Proposed experimental pedestrianisation of Whitby Swing Bridge, 10:30am to 4:00pm daily, starting April 2021
