Whitby Town Council Public Services
What We Do
Give views, on behalf of the community, on planning applications and other proposals that affect the town
- Undertake projects and schemes that benefit local residents
- Work in partnership with other bodies to achieve benefits for the town
- Alert relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be undertaken
- Help the other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities.
The Town Council is one of a number of authorities providing public services in Whitby and has specific responsibility for the following:
Whitby Town Council provides a resident information service.
The service is based in the Council Offices in Whitby Museum, Pannett Park, Whitby. The office is manned by the Council staff and provides all sorts of information on anything from local events, allotment waiting lists and planning.
We can make copies of Council related information. Everything you need to know is contained within this document.
Pannett Art Gallery & Whitby Museum Building
The Town Council runs the Pannett Art Gallery and helps with the maintenance of the Whitby Museum building.
The Town Council provide allotments in Whitby. We control three sites; California Beck, Cholmley and Stakesby Vale.
We maintain a waiting list for those who would like a plot. If you’re interested in putting your name down on the waiting list, click here to download the allotments application form and you can either email it to us or post it to the office. Our address can be found on the contact page.
Christmas Tree Lights
The Council works in partnership with volunteers and local businesses to provide the annual Christmas Tree lighting display.
A voluntary working party organises the switch on event which is the focus for an afternoon and evening of festive entertainment.
The Council organises and runs certain events within the town such as Armed Forces Day. We also organised some smaller events during the 2015 Tour de Yorkshire.
Information on these events will be posted in the news section, so stay tuned!
